Nintendo WII U vs Nintendo WII
Graphics is the major differences between the original WII vs WII U. Unlike the current Wii, U capable of outputting video in full HD (1080p) via HDMI, so the Wii U could offer games with the graphics like Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Other huge differences comes from the controller, which the new WII U got a touch screen on it's controller stick.

WII U Controller vs Nintendo 3DS
Controller: like the 3DS, the controller also comes with a stylus. But tapping thru its screen without stylus is workable and smooth on WII U.
Button: on the left side there's a circle pad analogue stick, same like 3DS. There's a classic Nintendo D-pad underneath that, while over on the right there's a secondary circle pad, four face buttons, two shoulder bumpers and two trigger buttons too. It's got rumble capability, and inside there's a gyroscope and accelerometer for motion-controlled gaming.

WII U Games
From the early information, announced games are Super Mario 3D, Mario Kart 3D, Star Fox, and the new episode from Legend of Zelda.

Verdict:
Wii U offers HD gaming and a multi function controller, while backwards compatibility with older Wii games and motion control is a benefit for the users.
