The Hangover 2 Plot
Right after the bachelor party in Las Vegas, Phil, Stu, Alan, and Doug jet to Thailand for Stu's wedding. Stu's plan for a subdued pre-wedding brunch, however, goes seriously awry.

Director/writer Todd Phillips obviously went with the motto, If it aint broke, dont fix it, which ultimately becomes the fatal flaw for The Hangover Part II.

Review
Part of the first films success was due to the unexpected twists and turns. But, by following the same exact formula as the first film, The Hangover Part II has no surprises. Along for the ride is Stus future brother-in-law, Teddy (Mason Lee), who Alan finds to be an immediate threat to their Wolf Pack.

The pre-hangover scenes have a serious intensity to them, not unlike the setup to a 1970s Irwin Allen disaster film or a well-crafted haunted house thriller. Like the first film, the Wolf Pack wakes up after a forgotten night of drunken debauchery, this time in a sleazy Bangkok hotel room. To add to their dilemma, Teddy, Stus future brother-in-law is missing and the guys need to find him in time before the big wedding. Even though Cooper, Helms and Galifianakis have little original material to work with this time around, they manage to create a believable and likable spark.

While The Hangover Part II has the feel of a blockbuster with car chases, shootouts and exotic locales, the audience will be left weeding through the sparse original comedic material while Todd Phillips and his Green Hat Films laugh all the way to the bank.

The follow-up to director Todd Phillipss surprise 2009 hit, The Hangover 2 takes the cookie cutter sequel approach of identifying all the structural points of the original and repackaging them with slightly different wrapping.

A mercifully brief cameo from Mike Tyson? This time the fella getting hitched is Stu (Ed Helms), who reconvenes with the original gang Phil (Bradley Cooper), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) plus his future brother in law Teddy (Mason Lee) and travels to Thailand to walk the aisle.

The group wake up in Bangkok, their cruddy hotel room adorned with the added bonuses of a severed finger and an angry well-dressed monkey. Two years after piecing together the forgotten fragments of the craziest night of their lives, Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) are off to Thailand for Stus wedding to Lauren (Jamie Chung). Determined to keep things under control, Stu refuses a bachelor party. But before they know it, Phil, Stu and Alan wake up in a rundown Bangkok hotel, with no memory of the night before and no idea where Laurens 16-year-old brother Teddy (Mason Lee) has disappeared to.

The Hangover exemplified the way audiences will rally to recommend a comedy too unique to miss. Seldom has a sequel conditioned its audience to expect more of the same than The Hangover, Part II.

Like Bangkok vs. Vegas, The Hangover, Part II is darker, nastier and (depending on the neighbourhood) awash in danger. Much was made of the fact that The Hangover became the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time. As the movie opens, Stu (Helms) is marrying a Thai-American and bringing his pals -- including Teddy, Doug (Justin Bartha) and Doug's unwanted idiot brother-in-law Alan (Galifianakis). The expectations for the sequel to The Hangover really couldn't have been higher, considering how beloved the original is. In the second film, Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Doug (Justin Bartha) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) are headed to a wedding and want to have one last bachelor party hurrah before one of them gets married. Chow (Ken Jeong) is the only character that's more entertaining the second time around. One way The Hangover Part II surpasses the first film is in the gross-out humor.
