News: AT&T Bought T-Mobile

AT&T has bought T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom. Unlike the rumored T-Mobile/ Sprint merger, AT&T and T-Mobile actually use similar technology, albeit it on different frequencies. Many T-Mobile customers I know chose the company over AT&T because of AT&T�s lackluster performance. AT&T and T-Mobile USA combined have over 25% more subscribers now than Verizon (125+ million vs. 93+ million).

AT&T's press release tells a very clear story of why AT&T bought T-Mobile and why T-Mobile bought AT&T.

There wouldn't have been so much hype surrounding the Verizon iPhone if AT&T's network didn't drop so many calls and upset so many customers.

Two sections of AT&T's press release are devoted specifically to this problem. The simplest way to get its hands on precious broadband is through acquisition, and T-Mobile USA has the most GSM broadband spectrum after AT&T.

The second problem is infrastructure. AT&T simply can't build towers fast enough, and the approval process to build the unsightly things acts as a major roadblock to the company's efforts to boost its network reliability.

$39 billion is a lot of money to buy some towers, but because T-Mobile USA utilizes GSM technology (rather than the CDMA technology employed by Verizon), it can immediately use them to boost its network.

If the deal is approved, expect AT&T to quickly offload some of its mobile data traffic on T-Mobile's infrastructure.

No, today's acquisition is all about bolstering AT&T's network and beginning the process of repairing its reputation.

If history is any guide, the prime beneficiary to AT&T�s $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile will be Verizon. The bigger challenge will be keeping T-Mobile customers like my friend, Alex. Look at the comment stream of almost any article on the deal and you will find similar reactions from numerous T-Mobile customers. This sentiment, on top of the drawn-out approval process, will create significant opportunity for Verizon and other rivals to poach T-Mobile customers.

Seagate gained market share and, by reducing industry capacity, forced higher pricing.

Yes, Verizon benefits from all the problems that AT&T faces, but doesn�t AT&T�s acquisition of T-Mobile pose potential hazards for Verizon? If AT&T navigates its integration challenges well, Verizon will face a more formidable challenger in terms of scale and network capacity. How will emerging technologies and user behavior around WiFi, 4G, payments, mobile commerce, social media, TV-everywhere, and so on, affect the role of the mobile operators? If it plays its cards right, Verizon will also benefit from the opportunity to focus on those disruptive issues while AT&T works through with its T-Mobile acquisition.

SAG Award Winners 2011

SAG Award Winners: Betty's "Hot," Portman's "Black Swan," Buscemi's "Boardwalk Empire". Last night's SAG awards show was a more civilized, staid affair than the Golden Globes. With one small-ish exception -- Natalie Portman snagged the SAG for Best Actress.
Most people had her slated to win the SAG, and Portman is her only serious contender for the Oscar. Last night they were up against each other for the first major award -- and Portman won.

The stars of The King's Speech took home the top prize of the night, the best ensemble cast award. Backstage, Helena Bonham Carter had her second award show shoe mishap of the season, which she took in stride. Bonham Carter went on to praise her ensemble cast members.

Following her best supporting actress win for The Fighter, Melissa Leo described awards shows as so emotionally explosive her brain melts and said she can barely keep it together from the moment her name is called until the post-show interviews. Winning best actor for The Fighter was the icing on the birthday cake for Christian Bale, who turned 37 today. The Good Wife actress Julianna Margulies reminisced about her first movie role backstage. On winning the award for female actor in a drama series, she said, "I was so overwhelmed. After winning best ensemble in a comedy series, the cast of Modern Family was all jokes backstage. Ernest Borgnine, who received SAG's Life Achievement Award, brought his wife of 38 years, Tova, onto the podium backstage. Borgnine was blown away by the award. �The King�s Speech� took home two of the top honors Sunday, picking up Best Male Actor for Colin Firth�s performance, and also taking home the Best Ensemble award, the SAG equivalent of Best Movie.

Natalie Portman took home the trophy for Best Female Actress for her performance in �Black Swan�.

Portman also scored an upset when she won Best Actress against the favored Annette Bening for her role in �The Kids Are Alright�.

Who is Susan Berman?

Susan Berman was known affectionately as a �Jewish Mafia Princess.� In 1981, Berman published the memoir Easy Street about life as the daughter of a mobster. Susan Berman was represented in the 1970s by the William Morris Agency, who talked with several Hollywood producers interested in adapting Berman�s book into a screenplay. The movie rights were purchased from Berman, but the film project never got off the ground.

Susan Berman (1945�2000) was a reporter and author and also the daughter of Davie Berman, a mob figure in Las Vegas. She wrote extensively about her late-in-life realization of her father�s place in a criminal empire. She was murdered execution style with a nine-millimeter hand gun on Christmas Eve 2000 in Benedict Canyon, California.

Various published accounts have speculated about possible connections between Berman�s murder and the 1982 disappearance of Kathie Durst�the wife of Berman�s college friend and heir to a New York real estate fortune Robert Durst. Durst was considered a prime suspect in his wife�s disappearance, along with another person of interest, but he was never charged in the case. Berman remained a friend of Durst after the disappearance of his wife, and Durst gave large cash gifts to Berman in the months before Berman�s death.[1] Almost two decades after Kathie Durst�s disappearance, New York State Police, at the request of Jeanine Pirro, the district attorney at the time in New York�s Westchester County, contacted Susan to interview her about the Durst case. She was killed within a few days of the query.

Berman lived right off the Sunset Strip on Alta Loma Road in West Hollywood for several years prior to moving to her last residence in Benedict Canyon. Nyle Brenner, Berman�s manager, said to theLos Angeles Times days after the murder that �many details of Ms. Berman�s personal life are unclear� and added �she had been married once in the 1980s, and later helped rear the two children of a boyfriend.� Berman�s relationships were layered, often deep and mysterious. She kept close ties to friends on Alta Loma Road, where she once lived, the Las Vegas Strip and in New York City, including Durst.

Berman was a published author and a graduate of University of California, Los Angeles with a master�s degree in journalism from University of California, Berkeley. She was a staff reporter for The San Francisco Examiner and also wrote for Francis Ford Coppola�s City Magazine, the Westinghouse Evening Show on KPIX and the People show on CBS. She was a contributing writer for New York,Cosmopolitan and Family Circle. Berman wrote �Driver, Give a Soldier a Lift!� and �Lady Las Vegas,� which accompanied the release of an A&E special for which Berman was a co-writer.

At the time of her death, she was working on a project for Showtime with attorney Kevin Norte. The title of the project was Sin City and was being planned as a Showtime�s version of the HBO hit �The Sopranos.�

The administration's stumble-bungling in the Shirley Sherrod melodrama is an epic case of lousy damage control - and that's putting it mildly.

By sacking Sherrod on the strength of a doctored video posted by a blogger on the Obama-bashing right, the White House seemed afraid of offending conservative media critics - and white voters who helped elect an African-American President.

"They're so panicky about looking anti-white that they overreact and do things so they can't be accused of being pro-black," a prominent Democratic official complained to the Daily News. "It was very sloppy execution."

By contrast, it's difficult to imagine Bill or Hillary Clinton, who as First Lady hammered the "vast right-wing conspiracy," so easily caving to the conservative attack machine that skewed the "evidence" against Sherrod.

Compounding the misery, the Sherrod mess stepped all over the President's marquee achievement of the week - the landmark financial regulation reform bill.

His carefully orchestrated bill-signing ceremony was swallowed whole by the media's fixation with Sherrod.

The flap capped the second straight off-message week for Obama. Speaker Nancy Pelosi was incensed when press secretary Robert Gibbs said Democrats might lose the House in November.

The White House was forced to sue for peace. Obama pledged to raise more money for the Democratic campaign committee, but the incident underscored lingering tensions between the White House and congressional allies.

The irony is that while Obama's job rating dropped to 44% in a Quinnipiac poll, his legislative accomplishments continue to pile up.

The anemic numbers fuel reservations about his leadership style and difficulty communicating his message more crisply.

That doesn't mean he's doomed, much less a goner for reelection a political lifetime away in 2012. Defenders say it's simply the summer doldrums, which will dissipate as the economy continues a slow recovery.

Still, with only months until the midterm elections, more bad news is certain to raise jitters among party leaders.

"Ronald Reagan did a lot of bad things, but people trusted him and thought he was strong," a Democratic veteran fretted. "Obama is doing a lot of great things, but unfortunately, a lot of people don't seem to trust him and think he's weak."

The Complete Guide of The Latest Android-Compatible Phones

Samsung Android Phone I7500.

In mid-April news of their Android phone was again leaked but this turned out to be a false start. Then suddenly out of the blue O2 Germany announced that they would be launching the I7500, making it officially Samsung's first Android phone, and what a phone it turned out to be.

With it's slim features (just 11.9 mm thick) and stunning OLED screen, this phone is a real competitor to HTC's offerings to date. The Samsung I7500 is scheduled for release in Germany in June 2009 and will be an O2 exclusive.

Vodafone HTC Magic Smartphone.

As a handset, HTC Magic is not a major departure from the G1 although it does up the ante in terms of style. The phone is thinner and lighter (owing to the exclusion of a full keyboard) and the original G1's pronounced �chin' has been smoothed for a much sleeker look. In terms of specifications, the HTC Magic is very similar, using the same Qualcomm MSM7201 processor, a 3.2 inch LCD touchscreen and 3.2 megapixel camera. Internal ROM has also been doubled to 512MB. Obviously the initial battery life issues of the G1 did not go unnoticed, and the Magic will ship with a 1340mAh battery meaning increased talk time.

The HTC Magic phone is a Vodafone exclusive and will be available across Europe from April 2009. At this stage there are no definite dates for availability outside of Europe.

T-Mobile HTC Dream Google G1 Smartphone.

From a technical perspective, the phone comes with everything we've come to expect from HTC devices including 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support together with a passable 3.2 Megapixel camera and GPS. Being a Google-branded device, integration with all of the Google applications (search, mail, talk, calendar, maps etc.) is seamless and intuitive as is the rest of the Android UI. The phone ships with a 1150mAh Lithium-ion battery and is quoted as having up to 406 minutes of talk time on GSM although reviews seem to indicate that battery life is nowhere near as good as it should be. Extended 2200mAh batteries are now becoming available and are highly recommended for heavy users.

Overall of the Google G1 is a nice phone that handles adequately. It may not have the wow-factor visually or even technically but as a first mover it is a good example of the potential of Android-powered smartphones. Now bring on the G2.

World Record on The Break: Beat Drum for 135-hours

Kunto Hartono, Indonesian drummer is on his way to breaking world record in beating drums, he now working on to achieve the target time, which is 135 hours. If he able to fulfill this target, his name will be writen in record history.

He performs his act in KAZA, one of the plaza in Surabaya. His performance use "Drumming Marathon 135-hour Guinness World records" as the theme. Start at 9pm (local time) with countdown from the audience.

Crowd audience is around the plaza, not affected by the live world cup match showing at the time.

As the countdown end, Kunto's drum stick starts the show. For the opening act, a rock song was the play. Wearing white shirt, Kunto with his full spirit beating his drum combined by guitar, bass and loud song from one of the supporting group bands.

The audience in KAZA shows their enthusiast to witnesses from the performers. The crowd took place from first to the second floor. Earlier before that, representative from local government give his speech about this incredible performance and world record breaking act.

"In the beginning I think this is a crazy idea, but after seeing Kunto's strong will, I believe he can do it. Not many young people had the capability to do such a thing," says by the representative.

To support this performance act, KAZA Plaza will operate 24 hours until July 3rd, 2010. On that date Kunto was scheduled to end his show. All the preparation has been done before the show date.

Behind the stage, a small room has been prepared. This room has one bed and medical check up tools to monitor Kunto's condition. A camera as the Guinness World Records requirement also keep spotting Kunto's act. And outside the plaza there's also have a big screen showing Kunto's act to the public.

Eclipse 2010 in Solo Indonesia on June 26

Moon eclipses took time at early evening to night time (local time), not many of Solo people aware about it. Besides the eclipse happens in evening time, lack of information spread also causing many of the people missed this unique nature event.

When I was collecting about this info in the neighborhood, the eclipse almost over. Almost all the moon surfaces are now visible again. However, many of the people surprised when being told that moon eclipse is currently happening.

They said, usually minus one day before an event like this, local government announces on local mass media. And also there's an announcement by the nearby mosque. However, today they don't think they heard something about it.

Same confession came from other neighbors, they just found put about it when being told. By that time, the eclipse almost over.

The Italy Team Darkest Day in World Cup 2010

The Italy team that crashed out at the group stage when defending their FIFA World Cup� title has been labelled their worst in history by the country's press.

"It's total darkness," said La Gazzetta dello Sport. "The worst Italy we have ever seen go out."



Italy were eliminated after a 3-2 defeat by Slovakia in Johannesburg, which left Marcello Lippi's side bottom of Group F with a paltry two points.

"It was the darkest and most terrible day in the history of Italian football," said La Gazzetta's editorial next to a photo of captain Fabio Cannavaro consoling Fabio Quagliarella, one of Italy's scorers in yesterday's match in Rustenburg.

Tutto Sport compared the team to mozzarella cheese, while La Gazzetta said time had caught up with an ageing squad in the end.

"Like Dorian Gray's mirror, on this afternoon in Johannesburg we saw the picture of an old, defeated team without a style of play or any ideas, outclassed technically and physically by a modest Slovak team," the paper said.

It was the first time in 36 years that Italy had failed to progress through the first round of a FIFA World Cup, and they repeated the feat of France, who fell at the first hurdle as reigning champions in 2002.
